SAVE ORPHANS FROM HUNGER AND UNEDUCATION

The sun burns hot over the orphanage in Masaka, Uganda. Ten-year-old Fred sits on the cracked red earth, staring at his empty bowl. His stomach growls, but he doesn’t complain. He hasn’t eaten since yesterday.

Around him, the other orphans are quiet too. Little Amina, just five years old, sucks her thumb to trick her belly into feeling full. Twelve-year-old Moses tries to smile, but his ribs press against his skin like sticks.

Inside the small, crumbling building, Edward Katongole counts the last coins in his pocket. The food ran out two days ago. The government promised help, but it never came.
