About this campaign
My name is Mohamed Abuzayed, and I am writing from London, Ontario, with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for help.
I am fundraising for my beloved cousin, Maha Mhanna—a 43-year-old single mother currently trapped in the Gaza Strip with her two daughters, Yara (20) and Yumna (16), both of whom are deaf. Their lives, once filled with hope and resilience, have been shattered by war, displacement, and unimaginable hardship.
Their home has been partially destroyed. Since then, they have been forced to flee again and again—more than seven times—each time carrying only what little they could hold, searching for a place that might offer even a moment of safety. Today, they live in conditions that are unstable, unsafe, and unfit for any human being—let alone a mother and her vulnerable children.
Maha is not just a mother—she is everything to her daughters. Their protector, their caregiver, their voice in a world that often overlooks them. For over two and a half years, she has endured relentless fear, hunger, and uncertainty, all while trying to shield her daughters from the worst of it. But no one can carry this burden alone forever.
Yara and Yumna face challenges that go far beyond the war itself. Their hearing aids—essential for communication and connection—have been damaged and are no longer usable due to the harsh conditions and lack of maintenance. They are cut off not only from the world around them, but also from vital support systems. On top of this, they are suffering from deep psychological trauma caused by constant fear, displacement, and loss.
They urgently need medical care, rehabilitation, psychological support, and access to specialized education. Without these, their future remains uncertain and fragile.
Leaving Gaza and relocating to Egypt is their only realistic chance at survival, recovery, and a dignified life.
This is not just about relocation—it is about giving them a chance to live again.
Every single day they remain in Gaza, their situation becomes more dangerous. Their physical and mental health continue to deteriorate. Time is not on their side.
Your support—no matter how small—can be the difference between despair and hope, between danger and safety, between silence and a future where Yara and Yumna can hear, learn, and thrive again.
How your donations will help:
Evacuation and Travel
- Border crossing fees
- Safe exit coordination
- Transportation from Gaza to Egypt
Housing and Basic Needs
- Temporary shelter in Egypt
- Food and daily living expenses
- Clothing and essential supplies
Medical and Rehabilitation Care
- New hearing aids
- Audiology assessments and programming
- Speech therapy
- Rehabilitation services
- Psychological therapy for trauma recovery
Education
- Access to special education programs
- Learning materials and support
How the funds will safely reach Maha:
Due to the extreme difficulty and risk of sending money directly into Gaza, all funds will be securely transferred to Maha’s father—my uncle—Ahmed Abuzayed, who is currently in Egypt. From there, he will ensure that the money reaches Maha through trusted and reliable channels.
This method ensures that your donations are protected and used exactly as intended: to help Maha and her daughters escape danger, receive medical care, secure shelter, and begin rebuilding their lives.
From the depths of my heart, thank you for reading their story. Thank you for caring. And thank you for giving them a chance at hope.
