About this campaign
Why We Are Raising Funds
The Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in Uganda is home to thousands of refugees, including families like Vicenti’s, who fled war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Amina’s, who escaped conflict in South Sudan with her malnourished children, and Peter’s, a young man from Burundi dreaming of becoming a teacher. These resilient individuals have faced immense challenges, leaving behind homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. However, life in the settlement remains a struggle due to limited access to healthcare, economic opportunities, and education. With inadequate aid and systemic barriers, many are trapped in poverty and uncertainty. This campaign aims to raise $15,000 to provide targeted support, empowering refugees to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Detailed Budget Allocation
The $15,000 will be carefully distributed across three key areas to maximize impact, working with trusted local partners to ensure transparency and efficiency. THE BREAKDOWN IS AS FOLLOWS:
Healthcare Access - $7,500 (50%)
Mobile Clinic Operations: $5,000
Fund five mobile clinic visits at $1,000 each, providing free health check-ups, vaccinations (e.g., for malaria and childhood diseases), and basic treatments. Each visit can serve approximately 100 individuals, totaling around 500 people.
Medical Supplies: $1,500
Purchase essential medical kits (e.g., first-aid supplies, hygiene products) for 200 families, ensuring they have immediate access to basic care at home.
Mental Health Support: $1,000
Conduct workshops and counseling sessions for 100 individuals, addressing trauma and stress common among refugees, with trained local facilitators.
Economic Empowerment - $4,500 (30%)
Cash Transfers: $4,500
Provide unconditional cash transfers of $300 to 15 refugee families. This amount, based on successful models like GiveDirectly’s programs, allows families to invest in small businesses (e.g., selling goods or farming) or cover critical expenses like rent and school fees, fostering self-reliance.
Education and Community Integration - $3,000 (20%)
Classroom Supplies and Support: $2,000
Equip a classroom with desks, books, and teaching materials, and support a local teacher to educate approximately 100 children, giving them a chance to learn and dream like Peter.
Community Integration Programs: $1,000
Fund Village Savings and Loan Schemes and cultural exchange events for 50 participants, promoting financial inclusion and reducing tensions between refugees and host communities.
IMPLEMENTATION AND TRANSPARENCY
Funds will be disbursed through established partners with a track record of effective aid delivery, such as local NGOs or UNHCR affiliates. At least 75-80% of the budget will directly benefit refugees, with the remainder covering logistical costs (e.g., transportation for mobile clinics, mobile money transfer fees). Regular updates on fund usage and impact will be shared to maintain transparency.
EXPECTED IMPACT
Healthcare: The mobile clinics will serve approximately 500 individuals over the campaign period, reducing the prevalence of preventable diseases and improving mental well-being, as evidenced by similar initiatives.
Economic Empowerment: The cash transfers could increase business ownership by up to 8% and asset value by 60% for the 15 recipient families, based on GiveDirectly’s Kiryandongo evaluations, enabling them to sustain their livelihoods.
Education: Supporting 100 children with education resources will lay the foundation for long-term stability, with potential to inspire future leaders like Peter.
Community: Integration programs will foster peaceful coexistence, benefiting 50 participants and their wider communities.
CALL TO ACTION
We are launching this campaign today, September 3, 2025, at 01:16 AM EAT, with a goal to raise $15,000 by November 30, 2025. Every contribution counts—$50 can provide medical supplies for a family, $200 can fund a child’s education for a year, and $300 can transform a family’s livelihood. #HopeInKiryandongo, and join us in bringing hope to Kiryandongo’s refugees. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
